I went to a hobby shop, and there wasn’t and natural-looking model railroad scenery products for a layout project. I went around the countryside and sifted different size of sand and gravel. I started to find new gravel pits with different colors can be used for various railroads. I brought a layout to a great American train show in Phoenix, and people asked where I bought my railroad ballast. So, Arizona Rock & Mineral Company founded, and sales took off like gangbusters. We try to find a rock for all model railroads and locations. We only make model ballast from real rock and doesn’t move as much when being applied compared to others. We try to make the application easy and the natural look.
